iPhone OS vs. Mac OS X, what is the best option?

A few days ago I called attention to an entry published Michael about what he thought was the “perfect tablet, interestingly as she read the entry could not think more different from Michael.

While I also realize the amount of users and the enormous difference between them, while imagining what Michael was perfect for him, I turned out to be little more than a big, heavy junk.

But back to the thought that it was proposed in that inning, “The perfect tablet is a tablet with Mac OS X?

In that entry is proposing a 13-inch MacBook Pro without any extra and a screen that integrates all the circuitry needed to operate the team, not a priori sounds bad but I decided to get my old MacBook 13 and verify to what extent is feasible to use Mac OS X with his fingers.

The result? It is virtually impossible.

What we cannot expect is that Apple introduced an operating system like Mac OS X, designed from the beginning to be used by a pointer and want to use it with your fingers. This could only have two options:

  • Include a pencil-shaped pointer or similar.
  • Create a new layer / interface to interact with the operating system through the fingers.

The first option gives me until Perez said, Apple and its big bet by using the fingers as a pointer would collapse the moment, not to forget is not able to use capacitive screens (a pointer of capacitive screens is not very precise).

The second I find it very attractive for the user, have full power of Mac OS X, but also have a usable and simple interface for a computer that is used with fingers, but would be a headache for Apple and developers.

Apple would have to develop a whole new interface for its desktop operating system; this also should be done almost from the beginning which would be a great investment for the company in terms of time and money.

But developers would also others injured; they should make their applications interface twice, once for streamlined interface and one for the traditional interface.

This is a disaster.

But let’s recap for a moment; are you saying that you want the full power of Mac OS X on a tablet right? I remind you that iPhone OS is based entirely on Mac OS X, so there really are few internal changes, and we’re proposing to create an interface specifically designed for use with your fingers … mom …that sounds familiar.

So friends, it’s called iPhone OS and including the iPad, the device that everyone judges without even having the chance to prove himself.

But I do not think the lead in this concert; they want you to test and how impossible it is to use our current OS, Snow Leopard, with fingers on a screen of 13inches. Try these three nonsense on the screen:

  • Try clicking the minimize button without touching any of the other two buttons.
  • Try changing the network by clicking on the Airport icon integrated into the menu bar.
  • Select more than 5 files and drag them to the Trash.

The latter would be more a failure of “concept” interface that … but of course you’re the one who defends and wants to put Mac OS X for use with your fingers, did you get it right one of the “challenges”? Sure you yourself have realize that today the sale take a tablet with Mac OS X is a genuine nonsense, at least with the current system.
